FROM THE PRESIDENT
AWU now has more than 10,000 students
studying for their degrees and at least 10,000 graduates. We are particularly
active in China, Germany, the UK, Korea, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab
Emirates, Iran and South America. Palestine is also a major center for AWU
students. The university started in 1990 and is celebrating its 15th anniversary
this year.
The school began with a major idea.
Dr. Lowell Ponte, a syndicated columnist and friend of Dr. Asher, sent her a
book called The Global University by Parker Rossman. In this book it said that
the global university would take place in around 2010. By accident an interested
student came along and gave your president enough financial backing to start AWU.
Your president’s first obstacle was how to start a global university. Remember,
this was a time before the fax machine and the Internet. Little by little, Dr.
Asher developed a model for the global university where students can work in any
language and on their own time. Today AWU is a leader in global learning and has
a proven “track record.”
As a special incentive for our 15th
anniversary, we will give $100.00 to any student who recommends another student
for enrollment. Additionally, we hope to celebrate our anniversary at our Hong
Kong graduation in November. Dr. Edward Lam of China is building a campus for
the university on the US Mariana Islands. In years to come students will be able
to study in residence on that campus. This year we also made an agreement with
several universities in Costa Rica for the exchange of programs. We hired new
representatives and opened new areas for students, both geographically and in
terms of subjects offered.
You can be justly proud of being an
AWU student or graduate.
NEXT GRADUATION
The next graduation will be in Hong
Kong in November. If you wish to attend contact Edward Lam by e-mail at awuicnhk@yahoo.com.
The date will be announced soon for a graduation to be held in Los Angeles in
the next six months.
NEW REPRESENTATIVES
New representatives have been
selected for many important areas. They have already begun their recruitment
work. Additionally, AWU has offices in Los Angeles. You may visit us by
invitation and reservation only. The vice president of AWU is Dr. Amir
Joushanpoosh. Dr. Joushanpoosh primarily handles students from the Middle East.
He works at the Los Angeles office. As you know, students may study in any
language, including Farsi, which is spoken by Dr. Amir. It is possible that your
president will visit the Middle East during 2005. She will also be present at
the Hong Kong graduation in November.
MAJOR SUBJECTS
Students frequently select
non-traditional majors. When this happens, the major must be in a standard
subject like Business but the alternative major can be listed on the diploma as
a specialization. An example would be: Major in Business Administration with a
Specialization in Marine Port Management. Students may also have a dual major if
the two subjects are technically compatible. For example, Economics can be
combined with Business, or Art and Architecture may go together. AWU also offers
post-graduate degrees to students who already have a Ph.D
BRAZIL
Gilberto Pinheiro Dos Santos has
illegally represented American World University in Brazil. He forged names on
diplomas and has no contact with our office. AWU sued him in the courts and he
will be taken to task by our school, and by his own government for defrauding
students.
NEWS
Please inform us of your successes as
an AWU graduate. If you are promoted at work, obtain a new job, or receive an
award, we want to know about this. We will publish the information in our
newsletter.
Best wishes to all,
Dr. Maxine Asher
President
